Understanding the Costs and Timelines for Registration

The time and cost required to complete the registration process will vary from person to person for several reasons. The following chart shows the range of costs and time it may take to complete the registration process for an international graduate.

PEBC Document Evaluation (includes validation of licensure in other jurisdictions) Applications accepted at any time. Results provided within 8 weeks of all required documents received. May be completed prior to arrival in Canada. Document evaluation is required in order to proceed to the Evaluating Exam. $530

PEBC Evaluating Exam Application deadline is about 8 weeks before the exam. Acceptance to sit the exam is provided within 5-6 weeks which is 2-3 weeks before the examination date. Results are provided in about 3 weeks. The exam is held two times a year. Completion of the exam is required in order to take the Qualifying Exam. Results are provided in time to meet the deadline for application to take the next Qualifying Exam.
This exam may be completed prior to obtaining immigration status. $515

Language Testing Timelines vary by the testing agency. Application deadline usually one week before test date. Results are provided in 5 – 10 business days. Range from $170 - $285 (depending on exam and country of examination.)

Pre-Registration with OCP Applications are accepted at any time. Validation of pre-registration takes 5 – 10 business days. $130

Bridging Program University of Toronto Canadian Pharmacy Skills for International Pharmacy Graduates (IPG)
(CPS I and CPS II to be completed) Application deadline a month prior to the start of the session.
In classroom sessions are 8 weeks each with 4 weeks in between CPS I and II. On-line sessions are 14 weeks each, running consecutively.
Course results available 2-3 weeks after final exams. All IPGs must complete the IPG program, except when both parts of the Qualifying Exam are passed on the first attempt, and then a panel of the Registration Committee will determine what additional education and/or training is required, if any. * For individuals who are required to complete other courses instead of the IPG program, they range from $225 to $600

Studentship training Application accepted with, or any time after, application for certificate of registration as a student. Validation of training takes 5 – 10 business days. Training is a minimum of 12 weeks. Validation of completion takes 5 – 10 business days. Payment is not required until completing application for certificate of registration as a pharmacist $410

Application for intern certificate of registration May register as an intern once studentship and the IPG Bridging Program* are completed. * If not required to complete Bridging, need to complete requirements ordered by a panel. $205

Internship training Application is accepted with, or any time after, application for certificate of registration as an intern. Validation of training takes 5 – 10 business days. Training is a minimum of 12 weeks. Validation of completion takes 5 – 10 business days. Payment is not required until completing application for certificate of registration as a pharmacist, $410

Jurisprudence Exam Application deadline is the first of the month prior to the exam date (Jan 1, April 1, July 1, Oct 1)
Results are released 6 weeks after the exam. May apply after all pre-registration documents validated (identity, PEBC evaluating exam, language fluency). Recommended after IPG Bridging Program. $200

Annual Registration Fee Paid at time of application for registration as a pharmacist. $600 or $300 after Sept.1 and before March 10

Professional Liability Insurance Required while registered for all categories of registration (student, intern and pharmacist). Range of fees depending on the insurance carrier ($125 - $600/year)

Totals An IPG who plans ahead to meet application deadlines and is able to complete each requirement in the minimum time may complete the full registration process within one year. The average time is 18 months. Some applicants may require 2 – 3 years. Language fluency is the most common reason for delays. An IPG who passes the Qualifying Exam on the first attempt and plans ahead to meet application deadlines may complete the process within 9 months. $1765 + plus annual fee $15,435 + annual insurance fee (with IPG bridging program and all exams passed on first attempt)
